General Information

What is a filament dryer and why do I need one?
A filament dryer removes moisture from 3D printing filament, which naturally absorbs water from the air. Wet filament can ruin your prints by causing stringing, bubbles, and poor layer adhesion. Using a filament dryer keeps your materials in optimal condition, ensuring consistent, high-quality prints and fewer failed prints. It's an essential tool if you want professional-looking results from your 3D printer.
What products does Filametric offer?
Filametric offers the Solo, designed to dry a single spool at up to 70°C, and the Duo, capable of drying two spools simultaneously with individual control, at up to 90°C. Additionally, we provide the DryBox, a versatile solution for both drying and long-term storage of your filament. All products are part of a modular ecosystem that seamlessly combines filament drying, storage, and smart automation for precision and convenience.
How does the Filametric filament dryer work?
The Filametric filament dryer works by providing heated air at precisely controlled temperatures. When air is heated, its capacity to absorb moisture increases significantly. As this warm, dry air flows across your filament, it efficiently extracts moisture from the material.
What makes the Filametric filament dryer stand out?
Filametric's filament dryers are designed to be sold either fully assembled or as a kit. From research, it was shown that many 3D-printing enthusiasts as yourself are excited to build your own filament dryer. This allows Filametric to sell our filament dryers at affordable prices, while still providing essential features. However, we integrated some special features, such as open-source NFC, a responsive 3.5 inch capacitive touch display and modular dryboxes, which can be used for both drying and long-term storage.
Can I use the Filametric dryer for all filament types?
The Filametric dryers are compatible with most commonly used filament types. The Solo model dries filaments at temperatures up to 70°C, perfect for materials like TPU and PETG. The Duo model goes up to 90°C, suitable for more demanding materials like ABS, nylon, and polycarbonate.

Product Features

How does the modular design of Filametric dryers work?
Filametric’s Solo and Duo models are designed as stand-alone solutions that integrate seamlessly into your 3D printing workflow. Their modular design ensures they are adaptable to future enhancements, offering flexibility and convenience while maintaining precise drying conditions. This approach allows you to invest in a high-quality system that evolves with your needs.
How does the NFC integration help me?
The Filametric Duo has a built-in NFC reader, which enables it to read the integrated NFC tag within the DryBox. This NFC tag is - and will always be - open source, meaning you can customize your drying profile however you like!

Making this feature open-source is essential in allowing you to optimize your workflow. As an example, you could program the NFC to start a custom drying cycle, after which it goes directly into storage mode, keeping your filament at a fixed temperature and/or humidity level.
Is the Filametric DryBox designed for storage purposes?
Yes, the Dryboxes are designed to be used for both drying and long-term storage.

Setup & Usage

Can I dry filament while printing?
Yes, you can dry filament while printing with Filametric dryers. Both the Solo and Duo models are designed to feed filament directly from the dryer to your 3D printer through a PTFE tube. This ensures the filament stays dry and protected from moisture throughout the printing process, improving print quality and consistency.
Can I customize the settings for my filament?
Yes, Filametric dryers offer full customization through an intuitive 3.5-inch touchscreen display. You can adjust the drying temperature, set timers, and monitor the process directly on the device. The Duo model even allows you to customize settings for two spools individually, ensuring optimal drying conditions for each type of filament.
Is it safe to leave the dryer running unattended?
Yes, Filametric dryers are designed with safety in mind and are CE certified, meeting rigorous European safety and quality standards. The devices feature built-in temperature controls and safeguards to prevent overheating, ensuring they can be safely operated even when unattended. Specifically speaking, both the Solo and Duo feature heating elements with a thermal cut-off, meaning they automatically shut-off when the temperature reaches a critical value. However, as with any electronic device, we recommend following basic safety precautions and placing the dryer on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

Maintenance & Support

How do I clean and maintain the Filametric dryer?
Filametric dryers are designed to be low-maintenance. Simply check the device periodically to ensure it’s clean and all components are functioning properly. Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth if needed. No additional maintenance is required, making it a hassle-free addition to your 3D printing workflow.
